Naming Your Baby
The months leading up to the birth of your baby can be one of the most exciting times of your life. Whether you know the sex or not; the big decision is names. Traditional or modern, original or just plain daft, the choices these days are limitless. Everywhere you look you will see possibilities, depending on how wacky you are, even the make of your toothbrush may be a possibility! Some even make up names from a combination of theirs and their partner, which is ok as long as you are sensible.
Take into consideration the surname too. If you have an unusual name like Pipe, the name Dwayne is a definite no-no. Similarly, if you are called Flowers, steer clear of names like Daisy or Rosie, for obvious reasons. Some of our favourite celebrities seem to leave their common sense at the door when it comes to naming their offspring, and it’s no doubt that so many of these change their name by deed poll as soon as they are old enough. However famous you are, there is no excuse for giving your child a name that sounds like a brand of mouthwash, shampoo, washing up liquid or toothpaste.

Finding a happy balance between modern and unusual isn’t that difficult. Go to one of the many websites that lists baby names and if you like one day it over and over again with your surname. Think if there are any unpleasant connotations that could come from it which result in them being teased or given a nickname that they won’t be able to get rid off. It is a major responsibility of parents to name their children appropriately, so please take care.
